Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season are included.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of characters who will separate from the central cast to begin their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.

This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might look unsuited, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

First, the party understands precisely where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.

Casimir then settled his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, above the city, with Cyd close behind.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants revenge.
  • Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a hostile place.
  • The strong character and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their position as key figures in the powerful family could help the party access areas they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The character are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The healer defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The target is marked for death by the clan.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to Timmony in quest for the antagonist.

Future Episodes

From episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Seekers and Planners groups.

Audiences can anticipate discovering which characters will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
