A First Glimpse at the Legendary Cast
The debut footage reveals Matt Damon portraying Odysseus. Audiences are introduced to Tom Holland as Telemachus alongside Anne Hathaway as Penelope. During an emotional scene, the character pleads with her husband to vow his safe homecoming, only for him to look up and question what occurs should he fail. Furthermore, the preview provides a quick, obscured look of the mythical one-eyed giant, from whom sheep are are taken by the hero and his men on their treacherous voyage.
Adapted from a cornerstone of Western literature, The Odyssey chronicles the lengthy quest undertaken by the famed ruler. After his triumph at Troy, as told in Homer's Iliad, the king faces a long and perilous return to his homeland.
Mythical Encounters and a Star-Studded Lineup
On his travels, Odysseus confronts numerous obstacles and legendary creatures. These include the witch-goddess Circe, who transforms men into swine, and the deceptive Sirens. Despite these trials, his sworn oath is to overcome anything to reunite with Penelope and Telemachus in Ithaca.
The adaptation's cast is remarkably star-studded. Alongside the leading trio is Charlize Theron as the cunning Circe, together with Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, Elliot Page, and Jon Bernthal.
A Story Repeatedly Told
Homer's epic has inspired many reinterpretations over the years. These range from contemporary versions and a late-90s dance production. It has even been adapted into a musical called Epic: The Musical, released in the form of a nine-album collection.
